They laugh.
Eat popcorn.
And ride the elephants.
All normal things that people do at the circus. The clowns are funny, the popcorn tastes salty, and the elephants feel as if they are guiding their hand over an eraser. The circus is a normal part of life.
Isn’t it?
You eat the silky cotton candy. Drink soda pop till your eyes water. And make your parents buy you the expensive light up toys.
“Come on dad please I want the one that spins on top and changes colors like the rainbow”.
Even though the parents don’t have the money for it they will buy the expensive light up toys so their children will remember their time at the circus.
“come on come all”.
The ring master has a funny looking hat on with a coat that is silky red wit golden buttons on it. He starts pumping up the crowd so every one can get exited and whats to come next. Then out comes the elephants, the horses, even the tigers and lions. They all had the animals dressed in silly attire or painted on with some kind of design. The ring master stands on a chair in the middle of the arena with all the animals and trainers around him. The the crack of the whip it was the signal for the animals to do whatever trick they were trained to do.
“And with that I will let the animals off”. He said.
“Now for the jokes and the comedy get your popcorn ready for the joksters of the night”.
You heard a beep then a little car the size of half a full length car came in slowly from the curtains. When the car came to a stop 11 clowns came popping out one by one. Now in my little brain I was so mesmerized how they could all fit in such a little space.
All of these memories as a kid was such an innocent memory and one ill always remember. Even the smell is memorable it smelled of farm animals and salty delights. How could I ever forget the smell of the snow cone syrup. And the feeling of the cold air. How could I forget that. It was summer and i was wearing shorts yet it felt like an icicle in the stadium.
Yet I will never forget what the ticket lady said to me.
“welcome to the circus”.
