what its about: Prentisstown isn’t like other towns. Everyone can hear everyone’s thoughts in an overwhelming, never-ending stream of noise. But in a town where privacy is impossible, there is a secret so awful that Todd, still a month shy of being a man, must run for his life. But how do you escape when your pursuers can hear your every thought?

Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton: (pg. 73 of 222) 5/5

what its about: Soul Surfer is a moving account of Bethany’s life as a young surfer, her recovery after the attack, the adjustments she’s made to her unique surfing style, her unprecedented bid for a top showing in the world surfing championships, and, most fundamentally, her belief in God. It is a story of a girl power and spiritual grit that shows the body is no more essential to surfing -Perhaps even less so-than the soul.

Normally on a daily basis I read only one book a month due to the fact that I am a slow reader. I read two books this month because The Knife Of Never Letting Go is a joy read and soul surfer is for a project for leadership. Even though i was forced to read soul surfer i am starting to really enjoy the book. I would like to change only reading one book a month and instead read a book at school and a different book at home. I  am starting to enjoy reading a lot more now and hope that i will read more frequently. Next Month i will start to read hopefully fifteen pages a day. The Knife Of Never Letting Go for me is a bit slow and hard to keep up with. They also use language and pronunciation in it that sometimes is hard to understand what the character is saying. Soul Surfer is a fantastic book it is a autobiography. i already new her story but to actually read it from the way that she saw what happened to her is amazing and truly inspiring.

This month was not what I had wanted my reading to look like. I forgot to purchase another book for my second book. And it looks like I was slower that the previous month. I finished the book soul surfer for my project but I didn’t get a chance to finish my other book due to me not really know whats going on in the book. my goal this month was to finish my two books looks like I got half way there.this month i am really hoping that i will be able to finish this book so that I can move onto another one. With this book I am reading right now is making me remember why I hated reading so much it was because I never knew what was going on. My goal this month is to move onto another book and hit double digests on my pages read per day.

This month was so much slower than all of the other months. That is on me i think I just got lazy with it coming to the end of the year. I completely did not reach my goal for this month as i had planned. I find that when we don’t do a lot of reading before class I don’t really get around to doing it. This book is starting to pick up speed a little so I am getting more intrigued that way I wish in a way that the book had a better flow so that I could understand it better. My goal next month is to at least get to close to finishing or finishing the book.

What its about: R is having a no life crises he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he is a little different from his fellow dead. He may occasionally ear people, but he’d rather be riding abandoned airport escalators, listening to Sinatra in the cozy 747 he calls home, or collecting souvenirs from the ruins of civilization. And then he meets a girl. First as his captive, then his reluctant guest, Julie is a blast of living color in R’s gray landscape, and something inside him begins to bloom. He doesn’t want to eat this girl although she looks delicious he wants to protect her. But their unlikely bond will cause ripples they can’t imagine, and their hopeless world won’t change without a fight.

This month ans a bit was a better reading month for me I finished The Knife of Never Letting Go which is a blessing because this book for me was painful to get through. I started reading warm bodies and I am loving it. I have seen the movie and the movie was incredible. I gave this book a 4 because some of the stuff in here wasn’t in the movie which i just find very confusing because they left out some of the weirdest parts. Over all I think that this reading ladder was by far my best in my opinion. For next month I know that it will slow down because of the summer but I am going to try my hardest to get at least half way through the book.

    Dear Felicity,

I can’t tell you how happy I was to see Soul Surfer on your reading ladder! I first read it in the fifth grade and, although I don’t remember a great deal about the writing itself, I absolutely fell in love with it. I’ve actually been meaning to re-read it again, so it was a lovely coincidence to see it listed on your own reading ladder.

What project for Leadership were you using it for, if you don’t mind my asking? Leadership Idol? (Is that what it’s called?… I can’t quite remember…)

I also noticed that you’ve been cracking away at The Knife of Never Letting Go. I know, as of right now, you’ve rated it a two out of five. Let me know when you’ve finished it and if your rating changes by then. A few friends have suggested it to me over the years, but I’ve never gotten around to it. If you decide it’s worth reading, though, I might give it a try. But if it sucks, I will also take your word for it, Haha! 😉

Now, as for improvements, I would just encourage you to reflect on your readings with greater depth. For example, HOW can you reach your reading goals–in other words, what’s your game plan? I’d also recommend elaborating when it comes to WHY you have given your reads their respective ratings. You do touch on it, I’d just say it needs some more exploration. This way, your audience can make better, informed decisions as to whether or not they truly want to read a title you have listed on your reading ladder.

That being said, however, I am excited to see what you read next! You seem to have great literary taste (as is dictated by Soul Surfer)!

    Yours truly,
    Jade
